A dark display does not automatically mean a total loss. With this quick diagnosis you clarify in two minutes whether only the power supply is stuck or the electronics are affected.
Quick diagnosis in two minutes
Insert a fresh set of batteries and mind the correct polarity. Glance at the contacts while doing so: white or greenish deposits block the current flow even with full batteries.
What a dark display means
If the display stays dark despite clean contacts and fresh batteries, the power is not reaching the electronics or the display unit itself has failed. Both belong in the workshop, because without the display you also lose all further status messages.
The fastest way back to work
Order a tested replacement device and send in the dark unit as your old device, then you get the deposit back and the vehicle stands still only briefly. We take over the deeper root-cause analysis in the workshop.
Frequently asked questions
The display is dark but tipping still works, how can that be?
Then only the display unit is affected and the radio section keeps working. Do not rely on that permanently though, as you lose all warning and status messages.
Can the display be replaced individually?
In many cases yes. During refurbishment we check whether replacing the display unit is enough or whether the driver circuit is affected.
Is a repair worthwhile with a dark display?
Usually yes, as the rest of the device is often intact. Through the exchange system you pay 450 euros net for a tested device regardless of the cause.
